A former general manager of engineering for General Electric, Daniel Sheflin earned a bachelor's in mechanical engineering from the University at Buffalo. Now retired, Daniel Sheflin is an avid fan of the National Football League's (NFL) Buffalo Bills.

After another disappointing season in which the Bills missed the playoffs for a 17th consecutive season, the team's owner Terry Pegula fired Doug Whaley as general manager. Pegula also axed the team's coach, Rex Ryan, and one day after the NFL draft fired the entire scouting staff. Less than two weeks later the Bills announced Brandon Beane as its new general manager.
A former assistant general manager for the Carolina Panthers, Beane was one of four candidates who interviewed for the position on May 4 and the only one to be given a second interview. Pegula cited Beane's extensive experience in Carolina's front office as one of the main reasons for making him the 13th general manager in Bills history. Over the course of the past 19 years, Beane coordinated scouting and player development as well as the medical and strength and conditioning staff.
