According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Buffalo Bills wide receiver Sammy Watkins has a broken foot and will miss the team’s OTA workouts. The team expects him to be sidelined until training camp officially opens in August, but believes that he will be ready to open the season this fall.

Watkins has what is known as a “Jones fracture,” the typical recovery time for this type of injury is 8-12 weeks.

Since being drafted in 2014, Watkins has been an explosive player for the Bills’ offense. In his rookie season, he finished with 65 receptions for 982 yards and six touchdowns—putting him fourth among all rookies with similar statistics. Having him back on the field is a top priority for Rex Ryan’s team, especially for quarterback Tyrod Taylor, who developed a good rapport with Watkins last season.

The Bills open the preseason, at home, against the Indianapolis Colts in early August. The date for that contest has yet to be determined.
