Quarterback Daunte Culpepper set the single season passing yards record for the Minnesota Vikings during the 2004 National Football League (NFL) season. The Central Florida University product connected on 69.2 percent of his passes that year, another franchise record, for 4,717 total yards. Culpepper’s 39 touchdowns over the course of the season represented yet another Vikings record, while his 7.1 touchdown rating ranked second only to Randall Cunningham’s 1998 mark of 8.0.
Culpepper finished the 2004 season with just 11 interceptions thrown, one of the lowest marks among the 30 best passing seasons in Minnesota history. Culpepper’s 2000 and 2002 campaigns rank fifth and seventh for the Minnesota franchise, respectively, while his 2001 and 2003 campaigns also rank among the franchise’s all-time best.
